Well-known Judaica artist Shraga Landesman combines curves and lines in aluminum to produce a striking Havdalah candle holder in silver color. On it are engraved the words “boreh me’orei ha’esh” from the havdalah blessing on the candle.
One person – usually a man – recites the Havdalah. Before the words from the Book of Esther, “for the Jews there was light, happiness, joy and honor” there is a pause and all present recite the verse in unison, giving emphasis to the prayer that we too should be worthy of joy and happy tidings during the coming week.
